The Photogate supports two configurations of the Ultra Pulley. The most common is to place a string in the groove of the pulley, as in Atwood’s Machine experiments. For this configuration, set the Photogate distance calibration to In Groove.

On the other hand, if you are rolling the edge of the pulley along a surface, you want to use the circumference of the outside edge. Choose the Outside Edge calibration.
