Ethyl acetate and some of the other solvents used in Experiment 29, “The Base Hydrolysis of Ethyl Acetate,” in Advanced Chemistry with Vernier can quickly degrade the ABS plastic bodies of our standard Conductivity Probe (order code: CON-BTA) and our Go Direct Conductivity Probe (order code: GDX-CON).

As a result, we advise the use of our Platinum-Cell Conductivity Probe (CONPT-BTA) for this experiment. The Platinum Cell Conductivity Probe has an epoxy body, so it will not degrade in the solvents.
