Everything You Need to Know About the Logger Pro Transition

A Legacy of Innovation

For more than 20 years, Logger Pro™ has been a trusted tool for educators helping students explore real-world data in real time. To our long-time Logger Pro users, thank you for making this application a cornerstone of your classrooms. We’re proud of its legacy and excited to share this next chapter of data analysis with you.

Why Logger Pro Is Retiring

A lot has changed since Logger Pro 3 launched in 2001. Back then, most schools exclusively used Windows® or macOS® desktop computers. Over the last two decades, we’ve seen the digital landscape and user experience evolve dramatically. Today, schools rely on a wide variety of devices—laptops, Chromebooks, tablets, and even smartphones running Android™ or iOS. These devices are web-enabled, touch-friendly, and designed to be wireless, fundamentally changing how students and teachers engage with technology in the classroom.

Rather than retrofitting Logger Pro to meet these evolving needs, we saw an opportunity to reimagine what data analysis could look like for today’s classroom. Our suite of analysis apps builds on Logger Pro’s strengths while introducing a flexible, student-friendly experience that supports continuous updates for long-term compatibility with new devices and operating systems.

What’s New—and Familiar—in the Analysis Suite

Our new analysis apps make it easy to get started, especially for Logger Pro users. Here’s what you can expect:

  • Familiar Logger Pro Features: Core functions like real-time graphing, data analysis tools, and sensor integration remain consistent, making the transition smooth.
  • Broad Device Compatibility: Use the apps on computers, Chromebooks, iPads, and mobile devices—or access them as Progressive Web Apps (PWA) in the Chrome™ browser.
  • Ongoing Support and Updates: Continuous updates ensure the apps stay compatible with new devices and operating systems, providing a future-ready solution.
  • Student-Friendly Design: Touch-compatible, modern interfaces align with how students interact with technology today.
  • Free Access Options: Basic data-collection features are available at no cost with Graphical Analysis, Spectral Analysis, and Instrumental Analysis.
  • Sensor Compatibility: The apps work with most LabQuest® and Go Direct® sensors, letting you use much of your existing Vernier equipment without extra investment.
  • Powerful Visual Analysis: Rich visual data representations help students connect classroom theory to real-world applications.

Meet the Analysis Apps

Many of the features you’ve relied on in Logger Pro are built into our four analysis apps, making it easy to get started! Each app is tailored for specific types of data collection and analysis, with Vernier Graphical Analysis® Pro offering the most comprehensive toolset.

Vernier Graphical Analysis

Free Version: Includes essential graphing and data-analysis tools like statistics and basic curve fits.

Pro Version: Unlock advanced features such as live data sharing, bar graphs, histograms, and FFTs, along with enhanced data-analysis tools like note fields, error bars, one-click event marking, user-defined calculated columns, and more.

Vernier Video Analysis®

Customizable site licenses provide access to powerful video motion tracking and analysis tools, enabling students to

  • Track motion manually or use autotracking to follow objects in videos and analyze changes in position, velocity, and acceleration.
  • Apply vectors and vector components directly over the video to illustrate movement and measure distances.

Vernier Spectral Analysis®

Free: Collect a full wavelength spectrum and explore topics such as Beer’s law, enzyme kinetics, and plant pigments with Vernier spectrometers.

Vernier Instrumental Analysis®

Free: Collect, analyze, and share professional-grade data from our Go Direct Mini GC™, Polarimeter, and Cyclic Voltammetry System, and use features like peak integration and voltammogram analysis.
