Summary
New product development software engineer. Designs, implements, tests, and maintains C/C++ application software in a Linux environment.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Work closely and collaboratively with the software team, product definition team, and project manager to design, implement, and test product software that meets and/or exceeds quality and feature expectations.
- Gather and generate software requirements based upon customer needs and product specifications.
- Analyze customer needs and provide innovative solutions.
- Responsible for managing, documenting, and adhering to software development processes, methodologies, and procedures.
- Assist the project manager to generate accurate scheduling and estimation of tasks and work breakdowns.
- Utilize software-engineering tools as appropriate to maintain and manage the software code base and resolve assigned defects.
- Remain cognizant of new and emerging software technologies.
- Work to identify and reduce risks associated with desired product feature from a development perspective.
- Strive to identify and remove requirements ambiguity early in the development process.
- Work cooperatively with the Quality Assurance team to define and review software verification and validation plans.
- Be an advocate and champion for continuous software process improvement.
- Candidate is expected to possess an ability to identify and resolve technical issues of a complex nature.
- Must possess knowledge of software development life cycles.
- Generate and document maintainable software.
- Possesses excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
- May be called upon to provide technical coordination and leadership as dictated by business need.
- An experienced and accomplished C/C++ programmer

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from a four-year college or university; or four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. A graduate degree (M.S.) in Computer Science, or Software Engineering is preferred.
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers. Ability to effectively present information to top management.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.,) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

Software
Vernier's two data-collection programs for use with Windows and Macintosh computers, are:
- Logger Pro: a powerful data collection and analysis program for use with any of the Vernier computer interfaces.
- Logger Lite: a free, easy-to-use program for use with the new Go!Link and Go!Temp products. It is designed especially for elementary and middle school students.
The company also offers data-collection programs for TI calculators and Palm OS handhelds. All software programs come with a school site license, as well as student licenses for home use.
Sensors
Vernier's sensors allow students to study motion, measure temperature, pH, pressure, heart rate, EKG, dissolved oxygen, conductivity, force, light level, magnetic field, acceleration, and more. In all, there are more than 45 sensors covering all areas of science.
Curriculum
Laboratory manuals are at the heart of the Vernier products. Each lab manual allows teachers to be up and running with scientific experiments quickly. Curricular materials include content in the areas of chemistry, biology, physics, Earth science, and physical science, as well as middle school activities.
